U11 Mid-Cork Final

Vals took on Doughnamore in the u 11 mid-cork final on in Doughnamore on Sunday last. The conditions were poor however the match that followed was not. Both teams were very evenly matched and this led to a game filled with excitement.

Vals played the superior football in the first half and dominated for long periods of time. It was Doughnamore who opened the scoring with two points in one minute. Vals Joanne Down opened the scoring for Vals with two points from frees. Doughnamore followed with a goal in the 10th minute. Vals followed with two gaols of their own from Aoife Plunkett in the 11th and 12th minute. The next 15 minutes was dominated by Vals with Joanne Down getting a goal and a point both from frees in this period. Doughnamore finished the half strongly winning a penalty in the 27th minute. The midfielder kicked it superbly leaving no chance for the Vals goalie Jean O'Sullivan. The first half finished on a score line of 3-3 to 2-2.

It was a very exciting second half with both teams having equal possession of the ball however in every game it is goals that win matches and that was the story for Doughnamore who scored four goals in the second half. With 6 minutes remaining in the game Vals were a point adrift Vals tried desperately to get the equaliser especially Joanne Down who scored all their scores in the second half however Doughnamore's defence remained tight and they ran out victors by the smallest of margins. The final score line read 4-7 to 6-2 to Doughnamore
