Sr. Maureen Cronin was born at Crookstown, Co. Cork, on 30th March 1923. She entered this Convent in 1946 made First Profession of Vows in March 1949 and Final Vows in 1955. She was a very pleasant person, full of life and fun and was a lovely member of the Community.

She trained as a Nurse in England and then was delighted to be sent to Ghana, West Africa to begin her work as a Missionary in our Hospital at Fosu, Ghana, (then known as Gold Coast,) Sister's generous nature and warm-hearted devotedness soon made her much loved
Because of ill health, however, she had to leave Africa and spent the last three years of her life in our Convent in Lourdes. Her deep personal love for Our Lady was rewarded when she died in great peace and joy on the night of the great feast of the Purification. She was greatly loved by all hence she was also greatly missed by both her loving family and all the O.L.A. Sisters in Cork, in Ghana and in France where she had left beautiful memories.

To quote Sister Marciana O' Keeffe

"I knew her personally in those early years and I also was training as a Post Graduate Teacher in London when she was there so I knew her kindness and real spirituality. Her great devotion was to Our Lady so she must have been very happy to work with the sick at Lourdes. Her death took place in Lyons, France on 3rd Feb.1964, in the 15th year of her religious missionary life and she was sadly missed by her family and by all her O. L.A. Sisters and her friends everywhere. May her soul rest in Peace". The above photo which shows Sr. Maureen with Nurses in Ghana where she was involved not only in Nursing but also in training Nurses and Midwives and of course in visiting the homes of the people, in running schools and training colleges for teachers and in all kinds of pastoral and social work.
